Exploring Christianity

Jesus Is The Good News

The best way to explore Christianity is to consider who Jesus is and explore the truthfulness of what he said and did.

Two ways we aim to make this easy for people are: The Alpha Course & Group Bible Readings

ALPHA: Alpha is a series of evenings aimed to offer you a chance to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed setting over a meal and with friends. It takes place online or in person, involves a 30min video presentation followed by a discussion group. Over 20 million people worldwide have completed Alpha. Why not give it a try? You can watch a trailer here: Alpha Trailer

GROUP READING: One of the best ways to explore the person of Jesus is to read for yourself the things he said and did. The four books about him (called gospels) are named Matthew, Mark, Luke & John and each of them offer a different perspective on who Jesus is.

How Can I Be Saved?

2 Corinthians 5:21 says: “He made him who knew no sin to be sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God.”

On the cross as he died Jesus ‘became sin’ for us.

He took onto himself the punishment and consequence we deserved for our sin, so that by confessing our need for forgiveness and our trust in him to forgive us, we can ‘become the righteousness of God.’ Meaning: we can enjoy the favour and goodness of God instead of punishment and alienation.

You can be forgiven of your sin, receive eternal life and be assured of life with God in heaven after death by confessing your sin and putting your hope in Jesus to save you.

You can do that, right now. You can receive God’s forgiveness, right now. Why not talk to God, right now and invite him to come into your life.

What is the Christian message?

Every country, community and family is built on stories that make sense of the world.

For us it’s the reality of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection that makes most sense of the world and how we understand our place within it.

It sheds light on questions that matter to every human being. To understand it’s impact on the world let’s explore four core ideas: Creation, Fall, Redemption, Renewal

Creation
Fall
Redemption
Renewal

Creation

In our original state we enjoyed partnership with God and purpose from God.

We lived without fear and shame, destined to live as those who were fully alive without ever having to experience death.

God gave us the task of extending paradise’s borders. He told us to go and

tame the world

                         make culture

                                                 establish families

Since God is good, everything he made was good and everything he made worked toward the goal and purpose he created it for.

This was fulfilment and joy to all.

Fall

But as anyone who’s lived for longer than a day knows – perfect peace and purpose didn’t last.

Humanity was deceived by evil and began believing that the creation (rather than the creator) offered us the greater fulfilment than God did.

We turned away from the loving, outpouring fountain that is God and we turned inward instead. We became rulers who ruled not on God’s behalf but in our self-interest.

We traded security for insecurity,

                                      purpose for emptiness and

                                                                           acceptance for rejection.

This is the world we’re born into now.

This is humanity as a fallen species, devouring and never being full,

                       never feeling totally at home.

Redemption

But God.

Those two words carry the weight of the human race’s hope in the world.

God did what we were powerless to do; he stepped toward us, he drew near.

God came offering peace and providing relief.

The eternal Son of God entered history.

Jesus of Nazareth, God in human skin, suffered loss, rejection and death – for us and in our place.

And now

When a person looks with the eye of faith at Christ dying on the cross, when they trust that his death was for them and their sin; that person can know their sin placed onto him.

That person can taste Life at last.

Renewal

After death, came life.

Christ our redeemer didn’t stay dead; death’s tomb broke open and the project of undoing all evil got under way…

Easter Sunday was the first day of a new week of creation

Humanity was made last, but has been remade first.

God is beginning again, renewing and refreshing all things.

Today, he’s inviting you to join him in his work and make your business, his business.

He invites you to walk with him, to be his hands and feet in this new creation project.
