Elders and Deacons
In the New Testament those involved in Christian ministry go by several names. Whilst the two leadership roles we read about are: elders and deacons, those who work hard for the mission of the gospel are often referred to ‘Co-Workers’ or co-labourers for Christ.
We aim to reflect the values and leadership culture we find in the New Testament.
Elders and deacons are servant leaders who work together to bring shape and direction to the Holy Spirit’s activity in the church.
Elders function as guardians in the church, ensuring a balance of vision and security. They’re accountable to God for the health of the church. Also called ‘overseers’ they operate like the fathers of the family.
Deacons are champions of church life and they use their gifts to bring leadership, encouragement and faith to the community. They’re servant hearted men and women who help shape and steer the church.
They work together forming the leadership team of the church.
Elder Jez
Is one of the elders. He became a Christian as a teenager from a previously non-churched background and is still blown away at the amazing goodness of God toward him. He’s married to Amy and has three pet children and a dog. He also produces a podcast featuring conversations on leadership and the Christian life, simply click on the photo to be redirected there.
Worker Ellen
Leads our connect team. Originally from Brazil she married Mike and is mum to Joshua and Elijah. Ellen loves meeting new people and helping them find their home in the church. If you're coming for the first time, look out for anyone in a bright blue t-shirt and they'll help you find your feet.
Worker Jane & Alex
Jane & Alex oversee our U11s ministry. They love sharing the gospel with children and helping them grow in their relationship with God.
Worker Hannah & Jonno
Hannah & Jonno oversee our youth ministry. They're volunteer leaders who work by day raising three children and as a plasterer, devoting themselves in their spare(!) time to discipling young people and creating memories that last forever.
Worker Alex
Alex oversees safeguarding at life church. Married to Jon and mum to Toby and Harry, she's passionate about helping people flourish in their God given gifts.
Deacon Jon
Is one of the deacons and responsible for leading our worship team. He’s got more energy than several duracell batteries and somehow manages to work as a gardener by day, play ice hockey by night and lead the worship on weekends! He’s married to the amazingly creative Abbey and is a dad to three feisty boys.
Deacon Simon
Is one of the deacons and responsible for leading our trustees who oversee the charitable body behind the church. A management consultant by day, Simon has an amazing gift for encouraging and coaching business leaders. He also regularly hosts giant bonfires and BBQs in his back yard.
Elder Ross
Is an elder, is married to Connie and has three children. Ross works as a chef locally and is passionate about learning to partner with God in prayer and prophecy.
Deacon Michelle
Is a deacon. She is a qualified midwife and spends much of her time training and championing student midwives. Married to Kev she has three children. Michelle also oversees our midweek groups and would love to help you find your fit at life church
Deacon Jane
Is one of the deacons and responsible for our safeguarding. She works on community outreach for the church and heads up our new Life Community Space; she has a massive heart for hospitality and community. Jane's a total legend and leads our Sundays 6-11s kids work along with Sharon.
Deacons Sam & Sarah
Sam & Sarah are deacons at life church and oversee our emerging discipleship ministry.
Elder Paul
Is one of the elders. Married to Amy with one son and one daughter, Paul is originally from South London. Paul and Amy moved down to Seaford to be part of the church in 2011 and, after a career in education, Paul joined the eldership team in 2025. He's a self-confessed Bible nerd and recently completed an MTh in Biblical and Theological Studies at Spurgeon's College.<br />
Staff Simon
Hannah is also employed part time on staff as our youth worker. Click on the image above to drop her an email and find out more about getting involved with our youth work.
Staff Yvonne
Is part of the staff team and is responsible for the administration of the church. Yvonne is married to Stephen and has two children, she can be seen around the town popping in and out of homes visiting cats whenever their owners are away (with the owners' permission!).
Staff Doug
Our international man of mystery, Doug looks after our building. He's a handy man, a computer technician, a health and safety officer all rolled into one!
Staff Jez
Is our lead elder who works fulls time for the church. He leads the staff team, preaches and teaches and is responsible for the overall direction of the church.
Staff Simon
Toby is our volunteer intern for the year. He's doing theological training with the Intentional Discipleship Gap Year and helps serve in our youth and kids teams alongside study.
Staff Sarah
Sarah works part time as our discipleship and integration co-ordinator. She does whatever she can to help people access our discipleship pathways as a church.
